Nutrition and fitness...two of the greatest essentials to leading a healthy lifestyle. When I was younger, I didn't care much for eating well...or for exercising. In fact, I didn't care much about either until I hit college. Sure, I watched my weight in high school, and I would hit the treadmill once in a while, but I was never fit. I was never healthy. This all changed my freshman year at Elmhurst College (go Bluejays!) when my RA invited me to the gym. I started tinkering around with the machines, having little guidance as to how to use them...or as to what workout regimen I should stick to. Even with my rough start, however, I became helplessly addicted to the gym; and slowly but surely, I learned what, how, and when to do what I was supposed to do in order to finally be fit.
Though I quickly became addicted to the gym, my nutrition was slowly lagging behind. Granted, college cafeteria food is not the most nutritious, but there are still healthy choices to be made. I continued to scarf down pizza, chicken fingers, fries, soda...never fruits and veg, never whole grains, never lean meat. Up until the summer of 2010, I ate pretty much whatever I wanted. That all came to a screeching halt, however, when my dad had a heart attack. I began to realize how the junk I was throwing into my body was affecting me. I decided then and there to begin better nutrition, and I have never looked back.
This has been an ever-evolving journey; each day I learn something new. Each day I try something new. I'm always up for change, and I strongly believe that's a good thing. I look forward to continuing my journey, and I hope that you can do the same!
